US Army Infantry Company (1500pts)

This is my US Army Infantry Company list. It is the very first list that I produced and shows the force that I will be using in my first 15mm World War II games.

The Recon Variant (on the right) was suggested to me as a way of providing my force with some 'eyes & ears'. I have yet to take up the suggestion but when I do I'll let you know how it goes.

"Infantry must move forward to close with the enemy. It must shoot in order to move…. To halt under fire is folly. To halt under fire and not fire back is suicide. Officers must set the example" - General George Patton Jr

"Go forward until the last round is fired and the last drop of gas is expended...then go forward on foot!" - General George Patton Jr

Company HQ

The Company is well led by Captain McKinnley an experienced combat commander who is well supported by his 2ic, 1st Lieutenant Harriman. The Company HQ is closely protected by two M20 bazooka teams.

McKinnley drives his men hard and fast. In return the troops know they have a commander who makes the same if not greater demands of himself and the company's other officers.

1st Platoon

1st Platoon is led by 2nd Lieutenant Johansson. Of Swedish extraction, Johansson is a soft-spoken man. However, don't be so foolish as to let this fool you into thinking he is anything other than a tough and competent platoon leader when the fighting starts.

A stickler for discipline, Johansson runs a tight platoon along lines conforming to Patton's maxim, "It is absurd to believe that soldiers who cannot be made to wear the proper uniform can be induced to move forward in battle. Officers who fail to perform their duty by correcting small violations and in enforcing proper conduct are incapable of leading."

2nd Platoon

Known as 'Freight Train', 2nd Lieutenant Williams leads the 2nd Platoon. Almost in contrast to Johansson, Williams is a rough, tough, cigar chewing giant of a man.

Although known as the 'Freight Train', Williams is not a tall or bulky man but he does possess an attitude in combat that inspires his men to believe that he is an irresistable force and there isn't anything that can stand in his way. The saying in the platoon is that, 'Whatever the odds, Freight Train will pull us through... he'll get us home'.

Battling Bravo Company

My US Infantry Company represents Bravo Company, 2nd Battalion, 7th Infantry, 3rd Infantry Division ('Rock of the Marne').

3rd Infantry Division fought from the Anzio beaches to Salzburg and the Berchtesgaden and it was combat all the way. Alongside the remarkable victories that 3rd ID notched up along the way were also the occasional episodes such as Utweiler that left the bitter taste of defeat, if only momentary, and served to remind both officers and men that they were not called 'Rock of the Marne' for nothing.

RECON VARIENT

This varient was suggested by Sgt. Caine on the FoW Forum;

  • Drop 2 LMGs and the Jeep from the Weapons Platoon and 1 57mm AT Gun from the Anti-tank Platoon = 95 points saved.
  • Replace with a 3 Squad recon platoon (Command Rfl, 3x Rfl, 1x jeep w/ 0.5" AAMG, 3x jeeps) as your 'eyes and ears' (Cost = 95 points) - really comes in useful against the Germans...
