My 10mm BKC American Collection
The Americans in the Second World War are something of an enigma to me. From what I have read about them in combat they often surpassed the expectations of their critics and defeated the claims of their supporters. The often quoted idea that Americans without ice-cream and apple-pie couldn't fight their way out of a wet paper bag is not a true representation of their capabilities.
Coming into the war as complete novices they took the hard knocks that gradually helped to form them into a more than competent force. By the time they landed at Normandy they were most certainly capable of holding their own.
I wanted an American force simply because of this apparent contradiction in their abilities. I decided that pitting them against the Germans would test their mettle and provide plenty of opportunity to see just how capable they were.
My American collection for BKC was started in 2009. The initial battlegroup was for late-war NW Europe and consisted of an infantry and an armoured battalion with supporting arms.
Wars may be fought with weapons, but they are won by men. It is the spirit of the men who follow and the man who leads that gains the victory.

Each, in his appropriate sphere, will lead in person. Any commander who fails to obtain his objective and who is not dead or severely wounded, has not done his full duty.
